Magento 2 Shipping Table Rates: Multiple Methods and Matrix Rates

Run several shipping methods side by side

Create an unlimited number of shipping methods, for example store pickup, standard and express, or several flat rate methods with different prices. Each method has its own table of rates, and customers see all methods that apply to their cart at checkout.

Methods appear at checkout in the order of their priority, so the option you want customers to notice first is on top.

Make a method available only in selected store views and for selected customer groups: a cheaper rate for your wholesale group, or a separate method for each store view.

Set the conditions for each rate

Each rate in a method applies only when the cart matches its conditions. You can combine them in one rate:

• weight from / to
• subtotal from / to
• item quantity from / to
• minimum order amount, before or after tax
• destination: country, region, city, ZIP code or a numeric ZIP range

To offer free shipping above an order amount, add a rate with a zero price and a subtotal condition.

Choose how the shipping price is calculated

Each rate can use one or several calculation types, and the amounts add up:

• a fixed price per order
• a fixed price for each product in the cart (shipping cost per product)
• a fixed price per unit of weight
• a percentage of each item's price

For example, charge $5 per order plus $1.50 per kg. Then set a minimum and maximum shipping charge, so heavy orders don't get an absurd price and light ones never ship for less than your cost.

Attach a Shipping Area to a rate

When the destination and cart totals are not enough, link a rate to a Shipping Area. A Shipping Area is a saved rule built with Magento's condition editor, and the rate applies only when the cart matches it. The rule can check:

• product attributes or SKUs of items in the cart, so bulky or fragile products get their own rate
• backordered items and stock in a specific source
• day of the week and time of day
• the customer's company and number of previous orders
• the address, subtotal, weight and quantity

You set up an area once and reuse it in any number of rates, as well as in Shipping Rules and Shipping Restrictions.

A method can have many rates, and several of them may match the same cart. Rates are checked in order of priority: the highest-priority match wins, and among rates with the same priority the cheapest one is used. Turn on "Stop further rates processing" on a rate to end the check as soon as it matches.

Give each rate an internal name, duplicate rates to set up similar ones faster, and switch rates or whole methods on and off without deleting them.

Import and export rates as CSV

Export a method's rates to CSV, including rate names and Shipping Areas, edit them in a spreadsheet and import the file back. The same file works as a backup of your rate configuration.
